Pipeline rights-of-way are corridors of land along the path of natural gas pipelines. They are established to protect buried pipelines from damage and to help keep the public safe from natural gas leaks, fires and explosions. |

Help Keep Our Rights-of-Way Safe and Clear |
We ask for your help in keeping our natural gas line rights-of-way free of construction activities, obstructions and vegetation. Clear rights-of-way allow us to conduct regular pipeline inspections and maintenance. They also provide visibility for aerial patrols and gas leak detection. |
Our pipeline rights-of-way are typically indicated by high-visibility markers with Dominion Energy's 24-hour emergency phone number. If you see suspicious activity near a pipeline marker or construction occurring nearby with no utility personnel present, report it immediately by calling this number. |
Be aware that pipeline markers show the general route of our buried high-pressure transmission pipelines but not their specific location. Never use these markers as a substitute for contacting 811 to have all utility lines in your dig area located and marked. |
Property Uses Within Easements |
Dominion Energy may own the property within a right-of-way or may have purchased the rights to use a property through an easement, which is a legal agreement with a landowner that permits us to place transmission facilities on the property and maintain/repair our equipment as needed. |
Where a pipeline right-of-way crosses private property, the landowner must not plant trees, high shrubs or any vegetation that would impede access to the right-of-way. Likewise, they must not dig, excavate, operate heavy equipment, build, store or place anything on the right-of-way. |
